Personal sewing patterns, drafted from your measurements

Sewing patterns drafted for you, not for size 12.

Shop patterns are graded up and down from one fit model: 1.68 m, size 12, someone you’ve never met. We draft yours from your own body, and a patternmaker checks every line before it’s printed on tissue.

02 · Sizes

Somewhere in this tangle is you. Roughly.

A shop pattern prints every size on one sheet, graded in 4 cm steps from a single fit model. When your bust, waist and hip land on different lines (and for four in five people they do), you trace between them, blend the curves, sew a test version, unpick, and try again.

your pencil line doesn’t follow any of them. that’s the point.

03 · How it works

From tape to tissue, in four steps.

The only step that’s on you is the first one. You’ll need a soft tape, a mirror or a friend, and something close-fitting to wear.

  • Right side
  • Wrong side
  • Interfacing
  • Lining
  1. Measure

Twelve measurements with a soft tape. Ten minutes, easier with a friend. The guide shows where each one goes, and your first order comes with a free paper tape.

  2. We draft

Software drafts the pattern from your numbers. Then Ruth or Owen, two patternmakers with fifty years between them, check every curve by hand. Usually within 48 hours.

  3. Sew a toile

Cut it in cheap calico first and send us three photos: front, side, back. If anything pulls or gapes, we re-draft it. The first re-draft is free.

  4. Keep your block

The corrected draft becomes your block. Every pattern you buy after that is drafted from it, so it fits from the first cut.

  • Hannah, Leeds1.58 m · short-waisted

First shirt in twenty years I didn’t have to shorten at the waist. I kept checking the seams for the catch.

    Fitted · 1st toile
  • Tom, Norwich1.96 m · long arms

Every pattern I own says lengthen here, lengthen here, lengthen here. Not this one. The sleeves stop at my wrists.

    Fitted · 1st toile
  • Abigail, Bristolbust 112 · waist 84

No full bust adjustment. I honestly didn’t know a shirt could just button.

    Fitted · 1st toile
  • Geoff, York73 · sway back

My wife sews, I’m the awkward shape. The toile needed one pin at the back neck. Owen re-drafted it in a day.

06 · Questions

Troubleshooting

The page at the back of every instruction sheet. If yours isn’t here, the patternmakers answer email themselves, usually the same day.

What if I measure myself wrong?

The form checks your numbers against each other as you type and flags anything unlikely, like a waist 30 cm bigger than your hip. Ruth or Owen look at every set before drafting. If the toile still shows a mistake, the re-draft is free.

Is this only for women’s sizes?

No. We draft from measurements, not from a size chart, so it works for any body: menswear, womenswear, tall, petite, plus-size, and children from age 8. Maternity drafts on request.

What’s a toile, and do I need one?

A test version of the garment, sewn in cheap calico. For your first pattern, yes: it’s how a good draft becomes your block. After that, most people skip it.

Is seam allowance included?

Yes: 1 cm on seams and 3 cm on hems. The stitching line is printed too, dashed, so you can trim the allowance off if you prefer to add your own.

Centimetres or inches? A4 or Letter?

Both. You can enter measurements in either unit, and every PDF comes as A4 and US Letter tiles, an A0 copyshop sheet and a projector file.

What happens to my measurements?

They’re stored to draft your patterns and for nothing else. Delete them from your account in one click and we delete your block with them.
